COLUMBIA, S.C. – Fort Valley State University Women's Volleyball (21-4, 15-2 SIAC) dominated Benedict College (15-8, 9-7 SIAC) in straight sets Wednesday evening.
The Wildcats opened strong with a 25-20 win in the first set. After an early 5-5 tie, FVSU pulled away with a six-point surge behind the serve of
Morgan Hebert. A kill from
Dakotah Holmes and a service ace from
Naoma Yancey sealed the set for the Wildcats.
FVSU controlled the second set 25-16. The teams traded points early before Yancey's seven-point service run pushed the Wildcats to a commanding 24-15 advantage.
Imani Stokes closed the frame with a kill to put FVSU ahead 2-0 in the match.
The Wildcats completed the sweep with a 25-20 win in the third set. FVSU jumped out to a 4-1 lead behind Holmes' serve, then extended it to 13-5 with
Sarah Rosario leading a five-point run. Another four-point stretch widened the margin to 17-8, and Stokes finished the night with a kill to clinch the victory.
Benaye Kyle led the offense with 12 kills while hitting an impressive .478 on the evening. Holmes followed with 10 kills, and Stokes added nine while swinging .368. Hebert directed the attack with 31 assists and tied Yancey for a team-high three service aces.
Defensively, Rosario anchored the back row with 14 digs, while Holmes and Kyle contributed eight apiece. At the net,
Brooke Matthews and
Tanyla Farley each tallied a solo block and a block assist.
The Wildcats return home on Tuesday, Nov. 11, to host Savannah State University at 6 p.m. for Senior Night.
