Wildcats Topped by Golden Tigers in SIAC Opener

TUSKEGEE, Ala. — Fort Valley State University Women's Basketball (0-2, 0-1 SIAC) fell 62-59 to Tuskegee University (1-1, 1-0 SIAC) Thursday evening.

The Wildcats struck first with a two-point bucket from India McIntosh. The opening quarter saw several lead changes, with FVSU building its largest advantage of four points before Tuskegee closed the frame on top, 11-10.

Reya Johnson tied the game at 11 with a free throw early in the second quarter, but the Golden Tigers began to pull away, taking a 25-15 lead, their largest of the frame. A pair of layups from Jatiana Chambers helped the Wildcats cut the deficit to three at halftime, trailing 31-28.

FVSU regained the lead early in the third after a Julia Baker layup and an Aaniyah Allen three put the Wildcats in front, 33-32. Tuskegee responded with a run to go back ahead by six, but two free throws from McIntosh and another from Johnson trimmed the margin to 49-46 heading into the final period.

Tuskegee opened the fourth quarter with eight straight points to push the lead to 11. The Wildcats continued to battle, and a Baker three-pointer brought the game back within three down the stretch. Despite a late three from Allen, FVSU's comeback fell just short, 62-59.

Allen led the Wildcats with 14 points on six made field goals, including two from beyond the arc. Kimora Wade followed with 13 points, fueled by an efficient 7-for-8 performance at the free-throw line. McIntosh joined them in double figures with 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting.

McIntosh also paced FVSU on the glass with eight rebounds, three offensive and five defensive, while adding a team-high three blocks. Wade collected seven rebounds, including five offensive boards. Baker anchored the defensive pressure with a team-best five steals.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Nov. 22, traveling to Miles College for a 1 p.m. CT / 2 p.m. ET tipoff.
