FAIRFIELD, Ala. – Fort Valley State University Men's Basketball (1-3, 0-3 SIAC) fell 72-60 on the road at Miles College (3-0, 2-0 SIAC).
Miles opened the game with a layup and a three-pointer to take an early 5-0 lead.
Meka Nnaji put FVSU on the board with a layup, making it 5-2. The teams traded baskets before the Golden Bears stretched their advantage to 14-4, their largest of the half.
The Wildcats battled back and eventually took their first lead on a
Jaylen Jackson free throw, 28-27.
Aidan Lambert followed with a jumper to push the FVSU lead to 30-27. Miles closed the half with four made free throws, but the Wildcats held a narrow 36-35 edge at the break.
The Golden Bears reclaimed the lead to start the second half with a dunk, 37-36. Nnaji answered with a layup and a dunk on consecutive possessions to put FVSU back in front, 40-37. Two straight buckets extended the Wildcats' lead to 44-37. Miles rallied to tie the game at 46-46 before a pair of free throws from
Khirus Doucet put FVSU back ahead, 48-46. The teams traded the lead multiple times, but Miles pieced together key scoring runs late to pull away for the 72-60 victory.
Jackson led the Wildcats with 17 points on six field goals and four free throws. Nnaji added 13 points on 5-for-11 shooting, while Lambert contributed nine. Jackson, Nnaji, and Doucet shared the team lead on the boards with five rebounds each.
FVSU resumes action on the road at Kentucky State University on Tuesday, Nov. 25, with tipoff set for noon.
