Wildcats Conclude 2025 Season in SIAC Championship Match

MOBILE, Ala. – Fort Valley State University Women's Volleyball (25-5) closed its 2025 campaign with a hard-fought Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship match loss to Spring Hill College (26-5). The Wildcats were the only team in the SIAC to push the Badgers to five sets this season.

Spring Hill opened the match with a 25-18 first-set win, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. FVSU answered with a four-point run behind the serve of Dakotah Holmes to take a 6-5 advantage. The teams traded points until a seven-point Badger run broke the set open at 19-12, and SHC closed it out with three straight points.

FVSU responded in the second set, taking it 25-19. The Wildcats fired off back-to-back kills to grab an early 2-0 lead. A five-point run with Benaye Kyle at the service line pushed FVSU in front 10-9. After Spring Hill countered with four straight, the Wildcats answered with a five-point run sparked by the serve of Sarah Rosario. In the closing stretch, Fort Valley State delivered four consecutive points, capped by a Caytlyn Sanford kill, to even the match at one set apiece.

Spring Hill claimed a tight third set 25-23. The Wildcats came out of the break on fire, outscoring the Badgers 7-1 and later extending the margin to 20-12 with a four-point burst. SHC, however, mounted a nine-point rally to steal the set and regain the lead.

FVSU forced a fifth set with a 25-23 victory in the fourth. The frame was a battle throughout, with neither team gaining more than a two-point cushion. The Wildcats sealed the set on back-to-back kills from Kyle.

The Badgers controlled the decisive fifth set 15-6, opening on a 7-1 run. FVSU broke up the scoring but was unable to string together a sustained run to close the gap.

Two Wildcats finished with double-doubles. Kyle led the offense with 19 kills and 13 digs, while Holmes added 15 kills and 13 digs. Morgan Hebert paced the attack with 42 assists, and Rosario delivered a standout performance at the service line with five aces.

Defensively, FVSU posted an impressive 32 total blocks and 75 digs. Imani Stokes led at the net with 10 block assists and one solo block. Hebert followed with nine block assists and a solo, while Brooke Matthews added five block assists. Rosario anchored the back row with a team-high 22 digs. Holmes and Kyle each added 13 digs, and Naoma Yancey chipped in 11.

This concludes an exceptional 2025 season for the Fort Valley State Wildcats.
