Bobcats Edge Wildcats in New Year’s Eve Game, 65-60

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Fort Valley State University Women's Basketball (1-9) fell on the road to Georgia College & State University (4-8), 65-60, Wednesday afternoon.

Georgia College opened the scoring with a pair of free throws before Aaniyah Allen gave the Wildcats their first lead with a three-pointer, followed by a layup to put FVSU ahead 5-2. The Bobcats answered with a three-pointer to regain the lead, but India McIntosh tied the game at seven. Kimora Wade responded with a jump shot to put the Wildcats back in front, 9-7. Fort Valley State maintained control through the remainder of the quarter and carried a 15-13 advantage into the second.

Tiana Gongora opened the second quarter with a three-pointer to extend the Wildcats' lead to 18-13. FVSU pushed its margin to a game-high 11 points on a layup from Reya Johnson, making it 24-13. Georgia College chipped away at the deficit late in the quarter, closing the half with a basket to trail 35-28 at the break.

The Bobcats opened the third quarter with a layup to cut the deficit to five, 35-30. Grace East answered with a three-pointer to push the Wildcats' lead back to nine at 43-34. The teams traded baskets throughout the remainder of the period, with Fort Valley State holding a 47-41 lead heading into the final frame.

Georgia College opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to pull within three, 47-44. Allen drove to the basket for a layup to restore a five-point cushion, 49-44, but the Bobcats responded by tying the game at 49. Wade knocked down a jump shot to give FVSU a 51-49 edge, and the Wildcats held the lead until Georgia College tied the game at 58 with a three-pointer. The Bobcats then took their first lead since the opening quarter on a pair of free throws, 60-58, before extending the margin late to secure the 65-60 win.

Allen led the Wildcats with 16 points, shooting 6-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-5 at the free-throw line. Wade followed with 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting, while McIntosh added 13 points on an efficient 6-for-7 performance. Makayla Arnold paced FVSU on the glass with five rebounds, followed by Wade with four.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, hosting Allen University at 2 p.m.
