FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats sent the home fans happy for the second night in a row. Fort Valley State downed over half its offensive attacks and pounded Catawba College in straight sets, 3-0, on the men's volleyball court Thursday evening.
Isaiah Fedd hit the first two points on winners and added the final point in the opening 25-9 score. Catawba put the first four points on the scoreboard of set number two and held a 9-6 edge. Tied at 17, FVSU scored three points in a row and held a 21-20 lead before the foes alternated in points over the final seven for the 25-23 home win. The Wildcats pounced in the third set to a 13-4 advantage and never let the Indians closer than eight points over the rest of the final set, 25-16.
FVSU won its second match in a row for the second time and are now 4-7 on the season.
The Wildcats committed only one hitting error in each set and had set hitting percentages of .619, .381 and .550 for the match percentage of .516, a program-match best.
Fedd led the offense with 11 kills, one error in 19 swings for a .526 percentage along with four aces, two blocks and two digs. Jaxon Hicks was right behind with 10 kills, .471, five digs, an ace and a block.
Raheem Thomas added seven kills in 10 attacks without an error (.700) and had three digs and a block. Taviian Martin chipped in three kills, two assists, two digs and an ace.
Guiding the attack, Oshane Farquharson dished out 20 assists along with three kills, three digs, two blocks and an ace. Constantine Ononye contributed two assists and two digs and Muhammad Mbaye had three digs and a kill.
FVSU will have the weekend off before it travels next Tuesday evening, Feb. 18, for a 5 p.m. exhibition match at Life University.
