ATLANTA, Ga. – The Wildcats rolled to a pair of victories last week and reaped their rewards today. As with its opponents last week, Fort Valley State swept the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball weekly awards with Isaiah Fedd, Jaxon Hicks and Oshane Farquharson earned the honors.
Fedd grabbed his second Player of the Week status after he hit an astounding .641 with only one error in 39 swings. Hicks received the Defensive Player of the Week after he had 10 digs and a block to go with 21 kills. Farquharson averaged 7.33 assists per set for the Setter of the Week.
The trio of Wildcats helped their team sweep both Emmanuel College and Catawba College in identical 3-0 scores over last Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
Fedd, a sophomore outside hitter, smacked 26 kills with only one error in 39 total attacks for a .641 percentage to go with four aces, seven digs, two block assists and two assists. The Apopka, Fla., native downed 15 kills without an error in 20 swings for a .750 percentage along with five digs and an assist. He followed with 11 kills with one error in 19 attacks for a .526 rate while he had four aces, two blocks, two digs and an assist.
Hicks posted his own solid hitting pair of games with a .400 percentage as he downed 21 kills with five errors in 40 attacks to go with 10 digs, a block assists and two aces. The senior from Beach Park, Ill., started the two matches with 11 kills, a .348 percentage, one ace and five digs. He added 10 kills, .471 rate, an ace, one block and five digs.
Farquharson contributed another top effort at setter last week. The Hollywood, Fla., product handed out 44 assists (7.33 a/set), four kills, five aces, two total blocks and five digs in the two games. The senior began the game with 24 assists, four aces, which keyed the second-set win, two digs and a kill against Emmanuel. He contributed 20 assists, three kills, a solo block and a block assist, three digs and an ace over Catawba.
The three Wildcats and their team play an exhibition match at Life University tonight, Feb. 18, in a 5 p.m. first serve.
