ATLANTA, Ga.- Fort Valley State University men's volleyball (8-9, 4-0 SIAC) plows through Morehouse College (0-7, 0-4 SIAC) 3-0 in Monday night road contest.
FVSU took set one from Morehouse 25-17. The game was back and forth until the Wildcats jumped in front 9-7. The Maroon Tigers broke up the scoring until Fort Valley scored five straight making it 14-8. FVSU ran away with the set after that.
Fort Valley continued the hot swings into the second set taking it 25- 16. The Wildcats scored first in a tit-for-tat beginning of the set. A four point burst starting at the sixth point for FVSU and a five point burst at their 15th point created the separation to secure the win.
The Wildcats capped off the match with a 25-13 win in the third set. Fort Valley scored most of their points in clusters including one starting at the first FVSU point. The longest was a five point succession at the 8th Wildcat point for the dominant 12 point win.
Jaxon Hicks led the FVSU offense with seven kills hitting .500 on the evening.
Raheem Thomas and
Jonathan Matthews both tallied six kills each as the second leading hitters. Thomas hit .600 and Matthews hit .857.
Oshane Farquharson and
Jose Gallardo had 25 of the 31 assists on the match. Gallardo had 13 while Farquharson added 12.
Libero
Jaequon Henderson led the defensive effort with nine digs.
Rashaun Wright and Gallardo led the blocking effort both with two block assists.
The Wildcats continue their road trip with an SIAC contest at Kentucky State University on Friday, March 21 at 6 p.m.
