FORT VALLEY, Ga.- Fort Valley State University softball (14-17) knock down Paine College (6-14) 5-4 and 9-1, Thursday afternoon. 

The Lions scored first in the first end of the double header on an RBI hit by pitch. The Wildcats tied the game in the fifth inning on an RBI double from Alexia Scott. Paine took their second led of the contest on ground out that plated a run. Jennifer Ramirez knotted the game at two in the bottom of the frame on a single through the left side allowing a run to score. Paine took a two run lead in the top of the seventh on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly. Leah Leonard kept the FVSU win hopes alive with a sharply hit ball to left field to score two. Taylor Orr walked the game off for Fort Valley with a laser up the middle for the 5-4 win. 

Orr led the offense with a 3-for-4 outing including a double and a walkoff RBI. Leonard went 2-for-3 with two RBI that tied that game and a run scored. Scott had the lone multibase hit for the Wildcats with a double. 

Tenison Myricks got the start in the circle throwing six innings with four runs scoring on six hits and eight strikeouts. Taylor Watson closed the game picking up the win allowing zero runs and zero hits. 

The second game was all Wildcats starting in the second inning. A wild pitch from the Lions allowed Ramirez to score making it 1-0. Ashtyn Perkins pushed run number two around on a sacrifice bunt. Paine pushed a run around on a sacrifice bunt of their own in the third inning to cut the FVSU lead in half, 2-1. Fort Valley doubled the run total in the fourth starting with yet another beautiful bunt from Perkins to plate another run. A Collage Newton stolen base forced a throwing error by the Lions catcher for the fourth run of the game. The Wildcats plated five in the fifth to walk it off. Ramirez kicked off the scoring with an infield single to make it 5-1. Perkins nabbed the next RBI on a bases loaded walk. A passed ball allowed Ramirez to score making it 7-1. Zoe Molina clubbed one to deep center field for a sacrifice fly. Marley Bell walked it off on a would've been triple, scored a double due to the run rule, to push the ninth run around and end the contest 9-1. 

Zayla Skakel led the offense as the lone batter with multiple hits going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Perkins led the squad with three RBI. Ramirez led the team with three runs scores. Bell was the lone Wildcat with a multibase hit with her walk off double. 

Watson got the start and her second win of the day throwing four innings with one run scoring on five hits. Gabrielle Stonecypher pitched the final inning allowing no runs and no hits. 

Fort Valley returns to conference play with a three game set at Clark Atlanta University. The two teams kick off the series with a doubleheader on Friday, March 28 starting at noon.
