ATLANTA, Ga.- Fort Valley State University softball (15-17, 10-9 SIAC) takes lopsided series opening win over Clark Atlanta University (5-24, 3-16 SIAC), Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats showed off the offensive fire power early jumping out in front 3-0 in the first inning.
Alexia Scott kicked off the scoring with a fielder's choice which allowed a run to score.
Tenison Myricks made it 3-0 with a two RBI double to right field. FVSU displayed stellar patience at the plate with
Jennifer Ramirez and Scott both drawing bases loaded walks to increase the lead to 5-0 with two completed. The runs came to a halt until the sixth inning when Clark found their way on the board on a two run single making it a 5-2 ball game. The response from Fort Valley in the top of the seventh proved to be the lethal strike.
Taylor Orr kept the hot stick going with an RBI single down the left field line.
Riley Youngblood made it 8-2 with a beautifully struck double up the middle to push two runs around.
Jasmin Stewart went yard to score three more runs for FVSU making it 11-2.
Laila Leverett kept the scoring going with an RBI single to left field. Orr capped off the scoring for the Wildcats with double to drive in two runs making it 14-2. CAU responded in the bottom of the frame with a three run home run but it was not enough to over take visitors.
Three Wildcats had multiple hits on the afternoon. Orr went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored. Myricks went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Ramirez had a 2-for-4 showing with two runs scored. Stewart had the big hack for FVSU with a home run giving her three RBI and a run scored. Orr, Youngblood and Myricks all had doubles on the afternoon.
Myricks got the start and the win in the circle for FVSU throwing four innings allowing no runs on three hits with five strikeouts.
Taylor Watson closed the ball game throwing the final three innings with five runs scoring on five hits and four strikeouts.
The two squads will finish out the series with a Saturday doubleheader starting at noon.
