Central State succumbs to Wildcats power

FORT VALLEY, Ga.- Fort Valley State University men's volleyball (10-9, 8-0 SIAC) took down Central State University (OH.) (5-15, 4-4 SIAC) 3-0, Saturday afternoon. 

Fort Valley nabbed the sweep winning each set 25-20, 20-12 and 25-18.

The Wildcats took the first set 25-20 and claimed the first point. To start the contest, both teams went back-and-forth exchanging points with the four-point run coming at the fifth point for FVSU ultimately being the deciding factor. 

The second set was an absolutely dominating performance from the home squad with a 25-12 win. Three points quickly fell to the home team for an early three point advantage. The big difference maker for the blue and gold came at the 19th point where there was a seven-point run to cap off the set. 

FVSU started where they left off from set three to set two with a 25-18 win starting with an immediate unanswered five point start. Central State chipped away at the lead here and there but a four-point run at the 19th point separated the Wildcats from the Marauders even more propelling them to the win. 

Raheem Thomas led the offense with nine kills hitting an outstanding .583 percent. Khairi Mitchell had the second most kills with six and a superb hitting percentage at .667. Jaxon Hicks rounded out the hit leaders with five kills. Oshane Farquharson led the assisting effort playing two of three sets with 17 assists. Jakaris Brown played the third and final set with eight assists.

The great wall of Fort Valley was stellar today with 24 block assists. Taviian Martin and Mitchell led the blocking effort with four block assists each. Kevin Charles, Marty Boyd and Thomas all added three apiece. Constantine Ononye led the digs effort with eight while Jaequon Henderson added five. 

The Wildcats are back in action Friday, April 4th to host LeMoyne-Owen College at 6 p.m.
