Wildcats conclude series against Allen with12-0 win

FORT VALLEY, Ga.- Fort Valley State University (7-8, 4-2 SIAC) softball cap off conference series over Allen University (0-6, 0-3 SIAC) 12-0, Tuesday afternoon. 

The Wildcats started the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Alexia Scott took advantage of the RBI opportunity with a base knock down the left field line to score Zayla Skakel who reached on a walk. 

Three hits accounted for three runs in the bottom of the second. Laila Leverett swung the big stick blasting a triple to the left center field wall to score Tenison Myricks who led off the inning with a single up the middle. A miscue by the Yellow Jackets second baseman would bring Leverett around to score making it 3-0. Leah Leonard plated the final run of the second inning on a sacrifice fly to score Riley Youngblood who reached on the earlier error. 

The third inning yielded seven runs on five hits and a handful of Allen errors. A leadoff walk follwoed by a single put two on for FVSU. Leverett struck again with an RBI single through the left side now 5-0. Another walk in the inning loaded the bases for Ashtyn Perkins who drove in two on a single up the middle. Skakel followed with a single up the middle of her own to plate run number eight for the Wildcats. Leonard knocked in two more on a single which forced a throwing error on Allen increasing the lead. Jasmin Stewart extended the inning reaching base on a fielding error by the shortstop which allowed another run to come around. 

There were a slew of pinch hitters in the bottom of the fourth for Fort Valley. Collage Newton made the most of her pinch hit spot with an RBI single through the left side to cap the scoring. The Wildcats took the game 12-0. 

Leverett was unstoppable at the plate with an impressive 2-for-2 showing including a triple. She also accounted for three runs scored and two RBI. Perkins had a stellar day at the plate as well going 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI and a run scored. 

Myricks picked up the start and the win in the circle for the Wildcats. She tossed three hitless innings with four strikeouts. Gabrielle Stonecypher had her second relief appearance of the series going two innings allowing two hits. 

Fort Valley is back in action March 7th and 8th on the road at Edward Waters University for a conference series. They will play a double header Friday at 1 and 3 p.m. with a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.
