FORT VALLEY, Ga.- No. 1 Fort Valley State University men's volleyball swept No. 4 Benedict College in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Tournament semifinals, Tuesday night.
FVSU won the first set 25-19, the second set 25-18 and the third set 25-16. As a team the Wildcats hit .355 to kick off the contest, .379 in the second set and capped off the match hitting .435.
Fort Valley showed off their hitting prowess with a strong 4-0 start to open the contest sending
Jaxon Hicks to serve. Two points here and there for both teams until a
Taviian Martin kill sent him to the service line for another four-point run to take the 11-3 lead. The remainder of the set was back and forth until an
Isaiah Fedd kill solidified the 25-19 set one win.
Benedict started off the second set with two points right off the bat. The turning point in the set for the Wildcats was at their 10th point on a Fedd kill.
Rashaun Wright took to the service line to continue the five point run taking the 14-9 lead. BC tried to snag the lead but couldn't string together enough points to break the five point lead. FVSU capped the set with a seven point, 25-18 win on a Martin kill.
Two Tiger miscues gave Fort Valley the early 2-0 lead in the final set. The largest runs for the Wildcats in set number three were a pair three-point runs at the 13th point and the 16th point. The set ended the same way it started, with a pair of miscues from Benedict for a 25-16 Wildcat win.
SIAC Player of the Year Fedd rocked the Tigers with 14 kills hitting .450 percent on the match. He was also a menace behind the service line with four aces. Fed led the team in kills and he alongside
Oshane Farquharson led the team in aces with four each. Farquharson nabbed 32 of the 26 Wildcat assists. Hicks had the second most kills with 10 hitting .318 percent.
A great day at the net for FVSU resulted in 10 block assists and a single solo block. The solo was nabbed by Wright .
Raheem Thomas tallied the most block assists with four. Wright was right behind him with three.
Constantine Ononye covered the floor with 12 digs leading the squad. Fedd had the second most with five.
The Wildcats take to the SIAC Championship to take on No. 2 Edward Waters University at 3:00 p.m. in the HPE Building.
