Wildcats cap season as SIAC Tournament Runner-up

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Fort Valley State University softball (24-22) closed out its 2025 campaign as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship Tournament runner-up. The Wildcats dropped both games of the championship series to Spring Hill College (31-21), falling 9-3 in the opener and 8-4 in the finale.

In game one, Spring Hill broke the scoreless deadlock with a five-run third inning and added another in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. FVSU got on the board with a solo home run from Jasmin Stewart in the fourth. The Badgers added two more in the fifth, but Stewart responded again in the bottom half with a two-RBI double to center, cutting the deficit to 8-3. SHC tacked on one more in the seventh to seal the 9-3 win.

Stewart led the Wildcats offensively, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, a triple, and a home run. Leah Leonard added a 2-for-4 performance with a run scored.

Tenison Myricks took the loss in the circle, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing six runs, two earned, on seven hits. Gabrielle Stonecypher pitched 3.2 innings in relief, giving up three unearned runs on four hits.

In the second game, Spring Hill jumped out early with two runs in the first and another in the second. FVSU rallied to tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth with an RBI from Alexia Scott followed by a two-run single from Myricks. However, SHC responded with three runs in the bottom half and added another in the fifth to take an 8-3 lead. The Wildcats added one final run in the seventh on an RBI groundout from Laila Leverett.

Myricks led the offense, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. Leverett finished 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Leonard went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Scott and Avery Thomas each added a double.

Taylor Watson started game two and was tagged with the loss, throwing 3.2 innings and allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits. Stonecypher again pitched in relief, giving up two unearned runs over 2.1 innings on three hits.

FVSU wraps up the season with a 24-22 overall record and the distinction of SIAC Championship Tournament runner-up.
