9/5/2025 9:27:00 AM

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Fort Valley State University Men's Basketball has announced the hiring of Brandon Mayhan as the program's new Assistant Coach. Mayhan brings a wealth of experience at both the NCAA Division II and NAIA levels, along with a proven track record of developing student-athletes on and off the court.

"One of the young superstars in the profession," said Head Coach Brandon Britt. "Mayhan brings a rare combination of work ethic, wisdom, knowledge and a hunger. FVSU is very fortunate to have Coach Mayhan and his championship pedigree in the Valley!"

Most recently, Coach Mayhan spent the 2024-25 season as an assistant coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). During his time with the Crimson Hawks, he helped guide the program to a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Quarterfinal appearance. Under his leadership, IUP produced two PSAC All-Conference selections, the league's Freshman of the Year, and maintained a 100% eligible roster with a 3.2 team GPA.

Prior to IUP, Coach Mayhan served as an assistant coach at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla., from 2021-24. There, he played an instrumental role in the program's back-to-back 20+ win seasons and multiple championship runs. The Fire claimed the 2021-22 Sun Conference Regular Season Championship and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament, while the following year they won the Sun Conference Tournament Championship and reached the NAIA Sweet 16. During his tenure, Southeastern produced four NAIA All-Americans, seven All-Sun Conference selections, including two First Team honorees, the Sun Conference Player of the Year, and two NAIA Players of the Week. His teams also excelled academically, posting a 3.0 GPA with 100% eligibility.

As a student-athlete, Mayhan was a standout at Chowan University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a minor in Athletic Coaching. A team captain from 2018-20, he was named Team Defensive MVP (2017-18), earned the ADA Academic Achievement Award (2018-20), and was a Conference Carolinas Academic All-Conference honoree (2019-20). He later completed his master's degree in Organizational Leadership at Southeastern University.

"We are so excited to have Coach Mayhan join the Wildcat Family," said Director of Athletics Daphnie Johnson. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience here to the Valley."

Mayhan has officially begun his role with the Wildcats as the program looks to build on its tradition of excellence both on the court and in the classroom.
