FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Fort Valley State University Women's Basketball (4-15, 4-13 SIAC) engineered a second-half comeback to earn a 60–55 victory over Spring Hill College (6-13, 4-12 SIAC) Thursday evening.
SHC jumped out to a quick start in the opening quarter. The Wildcats got on the board with a jumper from
Aaniyah Allen to make it 4–2, followed by a strong finish inside from
India McIntosh to tie the game at four.
Grace East later knocked down a three-pointer to make it 8–7 and keep FVSU within striking distance. The FVSU defense created opportunities with steals and blocks from
Kimora Wade, McIntosh and East, but Spring Hill closed the period on a late run to take a 16–8 lead after one.
FVSU began finding its rhythm in the second quarter, cutting into the deficit with aggressive play on both ends of the floor. Wade sparked the Wildcats with a fast-break layup to make it 16–10, while
Marley Bell and McIntosh added points at the free-throw line and in the paint. Bell later finished through contact for a layup, and East connected on her second three-pointer of the half in the closing seconds. The Badgers Hill held a 31–20 advantage at halftime.
The Wildcats flipped the momentum in the third quarter, putting together their strongest stretch of the night. Wade dominated inside with multiple baskets, while
Reya Johnson delivered timely scoring with a fast-break jumper and a clutch three-pointer to pull FVSU within one at 37–36. Fort Valley State continued to pressure defensively, forcing turnovers and limiting SHC's looks, and Bell closed the quarter by sinking two free throws as the Wildcats trailed just 43–41 entering the fourth.
FVSU completed the comeback in a thrilling final quarter. Johnson opened the period with a game-tying layup before Wade gave the Wildcats their first lead of the night with a finish inside to make it 46–44. The teams traded baskets down the stretch until Allen stepped up with a key jumper to tie the game and a clutch three-pointer to put FVSU ahead late. The Wildcats sealed the win at the free-throw line, as Allen, Johnson and Bell delivered in the closing seconds, while timely defensive plays, including blocks from Wade and Johnson, secured the 60–55 victory.
Three Wildcats scored in double figures, led by Wade with 15 points on 50 percent shooting. Allen and Johnson each added 12 points, while
Makayla Arnold led the team with 10 rebounds. Wade added eight boards, Bell pulled down six, and Allen paced the offense with four assists.
Fort Valley State returns to action on the road at Albany State University on Saturday, January 31, 2026, with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
