SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Fort Valley State University Wildcats are back on the road and looking to make a statement in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play as they travel to Savannah, Georgia, to face the Savannah State University Tigers in a highly anticipated conference matchup.
Entering hostile territory, the Wildcats are determined to build momentum, establish consistency on both sides of the football, and secure a crucial conference victory. With the season progressing, Fort Valley State understands the importance of every opportunity to climb the conference standings and develop a winning streak.
Leading the offensive charge is quarterback DJ Hudson (No. 3), who will look to guide the Wildcats through a disciplined and productive performance. Hudson's ability to manage the offense, extend drives, and make timely decisions will be essential against a Savannah State defense looking to protect its home field. Establishing an effective rushing attack, converting on third downs, and creating opportunities through the passing game will be key factors in keeping the Tigers' defense off balance.
Defensively, Daymon Polite (No. 9) will be a key presence for the Wildcats as they prepare to challenge Savannah State's offensive attack. Polite's physicality, defensive awareness, and ability to make plays will be important in setting the tone early. The Wildcats will look to apply pressure, limit explosive plays, and force critical stops to give their offense additional opportunities throughout the contest.
Beyond individual performances, Fort Valley State will rely on a collective effort from its experienced playmakers and emerging contributors. Winning the battle at the line of scrimmage, protecting possession, and executing in crucial moments will be essential as the Wildcats look to maintain control in a challenging road environment.
For Fort Valley State, the mission is clear: enter Tiger territory, compete with intensity, and leave Savannah with a conference victory. The Wildcats are hungry to establish a winning streak, and today's matchup presents another opportunity to take an important step forward.
GAME DETAILS: Saturday, October 17, 2026 | 3 p.m. ET | Theodore A. Wright Stadium, Savannah, Ga.
The Wildcats enter the contest with additional motivation following an impressive offensive showing against Central State, where they produced 508 total yards. Hudson completed 32 passes for 395 yards and five touchdowns, connecting with JaTony Pendleton for 162 receiving yards and three scores. Running back Rodrick Payne also provided versatility out of the backfield, contributing both on the ground and through the air. Fort Valley State will look to carry that offensive production into today's matchup while improving its execution in critical situations.
The Wildcats also have history on their side, having won their last three meetings against Savannah State, including a 7-0 shutout victory in 2025. However, with the Tigers celebrating Homecoming in front of their home crowd, Fort Valley State knows it must bring energy and focus from the opening kickoff through the final whistle.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET, as the Wildcats look to turn their offensive potential and defensive determination into a complete team performance and their first SIAC victory of the season.
