Wildcats Fall to Dragons On the Road

JACKSON, Tn.- Fort Valley State University Men's Basketball (12-11, 11-11 SIAC) took a tough 91-70 loss to Lane College (10-13, 1015 SIAC) Thursday evening.

The Wildcats answered Lane's opening five points with a fastbreak layup by Derek Delgardo Jr.  Teammate Meka Nnaji would add three made free throws followed by a good three-pointer from Jahlen Jack assisted by Danny Delgardo III making the score 10-8. Over a nine minute span, Nnaji, Delgardo III, Jack, and CJ Williams would band together and score a respectable nineteen points making it a nail biting three-point game against the Dragons, 30-27. In the last four minutes of the half, Lane would outscore FVSU 8-6, going into halftime with the lead 38-33.

Nnaji starts the second half with a rebound and a good layup, but Lane quickly responds with a three-pointer bringing the score to 41-35. The Dragons would hold the Wildcats to a 13-0 deficit before Delgardo III would receive a foul and make both free throws making the score 52-39. The two teams go back and forth, bucket for bucket before the Dragons' defense held the Wildcats to 51 points as they continue to extend their lead by seventeen points. Two free throws, a fastbreak layup, and an extra point by Delgardo Jr. brought the game to 73-56. Throughout the last seven minutes of the second half, the Dragons remained in front, outscoring the Wildcats 18-14, and finalized the game 91-70.

Danny Delgardo III led the Wildcats with an impressive 24 points, going 8-for-19 from the floor and 5-for-6 from free throw line. Meka Nnaji had a stellar double-double performance with 23 points shooting 7-for-14 from the floor and 9-for-18 from the line while leading the team with 15 rebounds for the night.
