Fort Valley Dominates Benedict in Run-Rule Sweep

FORT VALLEY, Ga-  Fort Valley State University continued its dominant stretch on February 24, 2026, overpowering Benedict College with a pair of commanding run-rule victories, highlighted by explosive offense, aggressive baserunning, and lockdown pitching.
 
In one matchup, the Wildcats delivered one of their most complete performances of the season in a 22–1 victory. Fort Valley State set the tone immediately, erupting for 15 runs in the opening inning behind relentless pressure at the plate and on the bases. The Wildcats added one run in the second inning, four more in the third, and two in the fourth to cap off a dominant offensive showcase. Fort Valley State finished with 19 hits, 19 RBIs, and drew seven walks while striking out just once. The Wildcats also showcased their speed, swiping an impressive 17 bases.
 
Mariah Williams led the offensive surge from the leadoff spot, collecting two doubles, driving in two runs, scoring three times, and stealing three bases. The pitching staff matched the offensive firepower, allowing just two hits and one earned run across five innings while striking out three. The defense was flawless, committing no errors and keeping Benedict's offense contained.
 
Fort Valley State carried that momentum into another dominant showing, securing a 17–1 victory behind another explosive offensive effort. The Wildcats jumped out quickly, scoring three runs in the first inning before erupting for eight runs in the second to break the game open. They added six more runs in the third inning, bringing their total to 17 runs on 16 hits while stealing 11 bases.
 
Several Wildcats delivered standout performances. Marley Quammie provided a spark at the top of the lineup, reaching base multiple times, scoring three runs, and adding two stolen bases. Williams continued to set the tone with additional baserunning impact and timely hitting. In the circle, Gabrielle Stonecypher and Danielle Bacon combined to limit Benedict to just one run on five hits while striking out six over five innings, shutting down any opportunity for a comeback.
 
Across both victories, Fort Valley State showcased its depth and ability to dominate in all phases of the game. The Wildcats' powerful offense, disciplined pitching, aggressive baserunning, and error-free defense proved too much for Benedict, as Fort Valley State controlled the action from start to finish in both contests.
The Wildcats return to play on the road to Allen University, Friday February 27, at 1 p.m. ET.
