ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Men's Volleyball Players of the Week on Tuesday, March 17, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in matches played last week.
Jamari Griffin,
Constantine Ononye, and
Logan Rogers were recognized.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jamari Griffin, Fort Valley State University
Outside Hitter | Freshman | Bowie, Md.
Griffin delivered a strong all-around performance across two Fort Valley State victories against Benedict last week. In the first match, Griffin recorded 19 kills on 29 attacks for a .586 hitting percentage, adding three digs and one solo block on his way to a match-high 20 points. In the second match, Griffin finished with nine kills, three assists and three service aces for a total of 12 points. Across the two matches, Griffin totaled 28 kills, three assists, three service aces, one solo block, three digs and 32 points.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Constantine Ononye, Fort Valley State University
Libero | Sophomore | Murphy, Texas
Ononye played an important supporting role in Fort Valley State's victories over Benedict last week. In the first match, Ononye appeared in all four sets and finished with one dig and two service receptions. He followed that effort with a strong three-set performance, anchoring the back line with eight digs.
SETTER OF THE WEEK – Logan Rogers, Fort Valley State University
Setter/Opposite Hitter | Freshman | Apopka, Fla.
Rogers was a catalyst for Fort Valley State in two matches against Benedict last week. In the first match, Rogers finished with a match-high 48 assists, adding nine kills, seven digs, three service aces, one solo block and one block assist. In the second match, Rogers led all players with 30 assists and added six digs, two kills and one service ace. Across the two matches, Rogers totaled 78 assists, 11 digs, 11 kills, four service aces, one solo block and one block assist.
