Willie “Satellite” Totten enters his second season at Fort Valley State University as Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator, bringing decades of experience, innovation, and leadership deeply rooted in the tradition of HBCU football.
A member of the College Football Hall of Fame and one of the most prolific quarterbacks in NCAA history, Totten first rose to national prominence at Mississippi Valley State University. There, he teamed with Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice to create one of the most electrifying quarterback-receiver duos in college football history. Together, they helped revolutionize the passing game, setting numerous NCAA records while showcasing a dynamic offensive style that continues to influence football today.
Totten’s coaching career spans more than 30 years and includes extensive experience at both the collegiate and professional levels. He served as head coach at Mississippi Valley State University from 2002–2009, where he guided the program to consecutive winning seasons and restored competitiveness within the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Before joining Fort Valley State University, Totten held coaching positions at Albany State University, Alabama A&M University, Southern University, and Mississippi Valley State University. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for developing quarterbacks and implementing offensive systems centered on discipline, precision, and explosive playmaking.
Since arriving at Fort Valley State University, Totten has brought immediate credibility, veteran leadership, and a championship-level mindset to the Wildcats football program. Recognized for his offensive expertise and commitment to player development, he continues to play a vital role in shaping the team’s identity while mentoring student-athletes both on and off the field.
Entering his second year with the Wildcats, Totten remains focused on building a culture of excellence, elevating offensive production, and positioning the program for sustained success within the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
