Coach Givens joined the Wildcats men's basketball staff as Coach Mark Sherrill's new associate head coach for the 2018-19 season.
After taking a few years away from the coaching profession and working in the auto sales industry, Givens rejoins Sherrill, who he played for as a student-athlete himself at Johnson C. Smith.
Givens leads the Wildcats in player development, scouting and recruiting.
The Kentucky native last coached on the sidelines from 2011-14 for another Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member Kentucky State as an assistant coach. Prior to that three-year stint, Givens was also an assistant at Lafayette High for the 2010-11 campaign.
Before being an assistant coach at his high school alma mater (2009-10), Woodford County, Givens served on the Johnson C. Smith staff and his former coaches of Coach Stephen Joyner, Sr., and Coach Sherrill. While with the Golden Bulls staff, he helped guide the team to back-to-back Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships in the 2007-09 seasons.
As a player, Givens was a four-year starter where he netted over 1,000 points and 500 assists in his career playing for Johnson C. Smith from 2003-07.
Givens still holds the all-time scoring record and has his jersey retired from his scholastic playing day for Woodford County High School.
