After the biggest game performance of his collegiate career and helping to record the top NCAA DII Region 2 upset of the fall to this point, football's Demetrius Harris is the Wildcats Co-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 30-Oct. 6. Individually, Harris led the FVSU defense in the upset at Fla Tech (33-29) with 7 total tackles, 5.5 tackes for loss of 42 yds, 4.0 sacks for 34 yards and 2 forced fumbles. The defensive end helped the Wildcats defense go from giving up 20 points and 280 yards in the first half to only 138 yards and a field goal in the second half, while producing 3 key turnovers.
On Harris day, his second sack of the day and second of the second quarter forced a fumble, which FVSU recovered and the Wildcat offense turned into a field goal. In the first 5 minutes of the fourth frame, his tackle for loss of 3 yds set up a 2nd-and-13 for Fla. Tech, which FVSU intercepted on the next play. With seven minutes left, his sack fumble forced Fla. Tech into a 2nd-and-36 back at its own 11-yardline and two plays later his teammates forced a fumble and recovered it where the Wildcats scored the game-winning touchdown three plays later. He added a final tackle for loss of three yards early in the Fla. Tech final possession, which ended in the FVSU defense breaking up the pass on 4th-and-goal from the 12-yardline to seal the upset.
