In Saturday's (Oct. 29th) match-up between the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (FVSU) and the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College (MHC), the Wildcats hoped to use their final home game of the season to derail MHC's chance to win the first ever Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) East Division title.  However, instead of knocking the Maroon Tigers off track, a 49-12 loss proved to be a train wreck for FVSU.

In a game in which the Wildcats never held a lead, the Maroon Tigers showed exactly why they are contenders for the divisional and overall conference title.  A dominating offensive performance ended with 662 yards of total offense for MHC.  Of that total, 536 yards came on run plays.  Of the 536 yards on the ground, one player, running back David Carter, rushed for 351 yards.  It was the most rushing yards that the Wildcats had given up in a single game or to a single rusher this season.

Meanwhile, FVSU's offense struggled.  Held to just 201 yards in total offense, the Wildcats committed a season-high nine turnovers in the loss.  While the return of FVSU starting quarterback Antonio Henton was highlighted by his two touchdown passes to wide receiver Christopher Slaughter, the seven interceptions and two fumbles by the offense prevented the Wildcats from posing a threat to the comfortable lead maintained by the Maroon Tigers throughout the game.

Defensively, the Wildcats were led by seniors Ricky Johnson, Emanuel Williams, Courtney Daniel, and Bernard Goodrum.  In their last home game of their careers, Johnson was the game's leading tackler with a total of 19.  The Atlanta, GA native also posted one tackle for loss; one forced fumble; two fumble recoveries; and quarterback sack.  Williams tallied 13 tackles while Daniel and Courtney had nine stops each.

Now  2-7 overall and 2-4 in the SIAC, the Wildcats will conclude the 2011 season next Saturday, November 5th when they play arch rival the Golden Rams of Albany State University in the 22nd Annual Fountain City Classic at 2 p.m. in McClung Memorial Stadium in Columbus, GA.
