PRE-GAME NOTES
The Matchup: The Fort Valley State University Wildcats (0-1) will take on the Statesmen of Delta State University (1-1) in a region contest. The Statesmen enter the game ranked sixth in the South Region of NCAA Division II and 11th nationally.
THE LOGISTICS: Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Wildcats Stadium in Fort Valley, Georgia.
ON THE AIR: FVSU will air the game via the Wildcats Sports Network with a simulcast on radio (WFVS 104.3 FM) and on television (Com South Cable, Channel 10 in Fort Valley, and channel 100 for the remaining coverage area). Award winning play-by-play announcer Charles Ward, color analyst Mark Lassiter, and sideline reporter Phil Walker will provide the live coverage.
LAST TIME OUT: The Wildcats lost their season opener to the Rattlers of Florida A&M University, 28-22 in Tallahassee, FL.
The Statesmen lost to the Demons of Northwestern State, 24-23 in Natchitoches, LA.
WHAT'S AT STATE: This game pits two members of the South Region of the NCAA Division II. Both teams are coming off disappointing losses.
· A win by the Wildcats would give them their first of the season.
· The Statesmen look to rebound after a loss in their second game of the season on
Thursday night, September 1st.
THE SERIES HISTORY: This is the second meeting between the schools. The Wildcats defeated the Statesmen in the first round of the 1998 NCAA Division II Playoffs (21-14).
THE COACHING MATCH-UP: Fort Valley State University Head Coach Donald Pittman is in his third season at FVSU. The Wildcats are 15-8 under Pittman and last year's team represented the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) in the Pioneer Bowl.
Delta State University Head Coach Ron Roberts has engineered one of the most successful runs in Delta State University football history. In his four years at the helm, the Statesmen are 37-14 with three Gulf South Conference championships.
FVSU FOOTBALL TRIVIA: FVSU had four players to sign as free agents this season with NFL teams. The signing of Ricardo Lockette by the Seattle Seahawks; Dionte Dinkins by St. Louis Rams; Narada Williams by the Detroit Lions; and Darnell Burks by the New York Giants, represents the first time in FVSU football history that four players were signed in the same year.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Wildcats will travel to Atlanta, Georgia to meet conference rival, the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University at 6 p.m. in Panther Stadium.
The Statesmen are also on the road next weekend when they travel to Russellville, Arkansas to meet Arkansas Tech University.
