FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY WILDCATS
VS
STILLMAN COLLEGE TIGERS
Saturday, October 20, 2012 5 P.M. (CST)
(Stillman Stadium, Tuscaloosa, AL)
PRE-GAME NOTES
THE MATCHUP: The Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (5-2, 3-1) will have a lot at stake when they meet the Tigers of Stillman College (4-3, 3-1) on Saturday, October 20th in Stillman Stadium. With just three regular season games remaining on its schedule, the Wildcats cannot afford a lost in the tightly contested East Division of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). Currently in first place of the East Division, FVSU is just one game ahead in the win column of division rival, the Golden Rams of Albany State University. In addition to the winner of the division playing for the SIAC Conference Championship on November 10th, a NCAA play-off berth could also hinge on finishing first in divisional play.
THE LOGISTICS: Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 5 p.m. (CST) in Stillman Stadium.
ON THE AIR: TBD
LAST TIME OUT: (FVSU) The Wildcats are fresh off a 38-12 homecoming win over the Hornets of Concordia College. Wide receiver
Christopher Slaughter had a career-high game with 10 receptions for 207 yards. The senior and Fort Valley native was voted SIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Fellow Wildcat
Marquis Franklin was named SIAC Offensive Lineman of the Week for leading an offensive line that was responsible for 434 yards of total offense.
(SC) In a game dominated by defense, Tuskegee University capitalized on Stillman turnovers in a 16-0 win.
WHAT'S AT STAKE: This game is an SIAC contest featuring inter-divisional opponents (FVSU from the East and Stillman from the West).
A win by the Wildcats would be keep them in first place of the East Division and make the two remaining games on their schedule (Morehouse College and Albany State University in the 23
rd Annual Fountain City Classic) even more critical.
A Stillman win would keep their slim hopes alive for the crown in the West and set the stage for a monumental battle against the Bears of Miles College on the following Saturday.
THE SERIES HISTORY: This is the 10
th meeting between the Wildcats and Tigers.
The Wildcats hosted the Tigers last season on homecoming and FVSU won easily 52-3. The first meeting between FVSU and SC was in 2003 with the Wildcats winning, 46-6. The only Tiger win against the Wildcats was in 2007 with a 34-11 victory.
