COREY HUNTER LED THE WILDCATS TO VICTORY OVER CARVER BIBLE

Box Score Fort Valley, GA (November 19, 2013) – The Fort Valley State University (1-3) men's basketball team won their first game of the season Tuesday night, November 19 as they defeated Carver Bible College (2-7) 81-75 at the HPE Complex on FVSU campus.

Both teams played well as the game changed leads six times and tied four other times, with FVSU going to half with a 40-37 lead over Carver Bible.

In the first half, FVSU scored on 15-of-38 shots for a 39.5 percent shooting half and 53.8 percent shooting from the free throw line. Carver Bible shot 41.2 percent from the floor on 14-of-34 shots and 4-of-7 in free throws.

For the game, both teams shot close to even from the field with FVSU shooting 40.0 percent (28-70) and Carver Bible hitting 40.9 percent (27-66). The Wildcats scored on 31.6 percent in 3-pointers and 67.9 percent (19-28) from the foul line. Carver Bible sank 38.5 percent of their shots from 3-point land and 11-of-21 (52.4 percent) from the free throw line.

FVSU scored 38 points in the paint, 14 points off turnovers, 22 points on second chance shots and 37 points from bench players. Carver Bible had 26 points in the paint, 20 points from turnovers, 7 points on second chances and 27 points from their bench.

Senior forward Corey Hunter (Cincinnati, OH) paced the Wildcats with a game-high 24 points, while going 8-of-11 from the field, 2-of-4 in threes and 6-of-7 at the charity line. Senior forward Brandon Davey put up the only double-double of the night with a game-high 17 rebounds and 14 points and senior guard Joshuah Davis chipping in 18 points and a game-high 6 assist. Senior point guard Anthony Bell had a good game as well with 8 boards and 5 points and those coming off a 5-for-6 night at the foul line.

Carver Bible was led by Derek Douglas and his 19 points and Joseph Comer 5 rebounds.

The Wildcats travel to Augusta, GA to play in the Paine College HBCU Classic on Paine College campus this weekend. The Wildcats play Concordia-Selma College on Friday, November 22 at 6 p.m. and Talladega College on Saturday, November 23 at 6 p.m.
