Box Score FORT VALLEY, GA (January 11, 2014) – The Fort Valley State University Wildcats (8-5; 4-0) placed four players in double digits as they improve to 4-0 in the SIAC with a 78-61 win over the Tigers of Stillman College (8-8; 3-1) Saturday, January 11 at the HPE Complex.
In the first half, FVSU's senior point guard
Anthony Bell (Detroit, MI) jumper with 11:13 left put the Wildcats in front by 11 (18-7) and gained another 11 point (31-20) lead with 4:53 remaining after tow made free throws by senior guard
Joshuah Davis (Augusta, GA). Stillman closed to within 4 points at the 5:53 mark when Torrean Walkers two point jumper fell.
FVSU hit 34.5 percent of their shots in the first half and shooting 66.7 percent at the free throw line, while Stillman shot 27.6 percent on the floor and 69.2 percent at the line. For the game, the Wildcats scored on 29-of-68 shots for 42.6 percent shooting and made 17-of-28 (60.7%) charity line shots. The Tigers made 21-of-63 (33.3%) shots and 61.5 percent in free throws on 16-of-26 shots.
The Wildcats outscored the Tigers in the paint 32-24, 24-8 in points off second chance shots and 25-20 points off the bench. Stillman had 9 points to FVSU's 8 on turnovers. The Wildcats out rebounded the Tigers 57-35.
Senior forward's
Brandon Davey (Warner Robins, GA) led the Wildcats in rebounds with a game-high 16 and co-scoring 14 points, as Cory Hunter (Cincinnati, OH) added 14 as well. Davey also added 2 assist, 2 blocks and 1 steal. Davis and Bell added 12 and 10 point respectfully and senior forward
Nigel Domineck (Atlanta, GA) pulled down 10 boards and scored 8 points.
Stillman was led by Jeffrey Wherry with 18 points and Torrean Walker's 8 boards.
The Wildcats will host the Golden Bears of Miles College on Monday, January 13 at the HPE Complex. Game time is scheduled for 8 pm.
