WILDCATS HOLD OFF KENTUCKY STATE FOR 36-21 WIN

Box Score FORT VALLEY, GA (October 11, 2014) – The Wildcats go to halftime up 19-7 at Wildcat Stadium, in their fourth conference game of the season with a 36-21 victory over Kentucky State University on Saturday afternoon in the Valley.
 
Fort Valley State snapped a one-game losing streak and improves their overall record to 4-2 and 3-1 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, while Kentucky State dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the SIAC. The win is sweet revenge for the Wildcats, after losing to Kentucky State last year 11-17 in Frankfort, KY. 
 
Kentucky State's Cade Berryman kicked off to the Wildcats 19, FVSU's Akwesi Mintah fumbled and Kentucky State recovered on the Wildcats 19. Two plays later, Brian Walker would intercept Adam Robinson to kill Kentucky State's scoring drive. In FVSU second drive with 8:25 to go, Malcolm Eady rushed 17-yards for the score and capped off a 4 play, 57-yard drive; Juan Serna PAT kick was good for a 7-0 lead.
 
Kentucky State tied the game at 7-7 with 33 second left in the quarter as Jacquise Locket rushed 30-yards for the touchdown to finish an 8 play, 69-yard drive. Berryman PAT kick was good.
 
Serna 25-yard field goal with 7:06 on the clock would give the Wildcats a 10-7 lead on 4 play,   4-yard drive.
 
On the next kickoff, Serna kicked to the Thorobreds 9, Cory Slaughter returned the ball 31-yard, before Tracie Walker forced a fumble, Darrius Jones recovered the fumble on Kentucky State's 45. Otis Brown completed the 3 play, 45-yard drive with a 17-yard touchdown run with 6:13 left. Serna PAT kick failed increasing the lead 16-7.
 
Serna capped the scoring with an 18-yard field goal with 8 second left to send FVSU to half up 19-7.
Third quarter, Jalen Whites 6-yard touchdown run increased FVSU's lead to 26-7 with 13:39 to go in the quarter, Serna PAT kick was good.
 
Then with 8:01 left in the third quarter, Serna kicked a 37-yard field goal ending a 6 play, 69-yard drive to improve the lead to 29-7.
 
Kentucky State would not go quietly; Locket finished a 6 play, 67-yard drive with a 16-yard touchdown run to close to 29-14. Berryman PAT kick was good with 5:08 left.
 
The Thorobreds cut the lead even more in the fourth quarter, as Serna punt was blocked by Nick Williams and recovered by Williams in the end zone. Berryman PAT kick was good for a 29-21 Wildcat lead with 11:41 left.
 
FVSU's Marion Lewis intercepted Robinson pass with 5:49 to go at FVSU's 46 and Lewis returned the ball to Kentucky State's 1-yard line. Eady's one yard touchdown run with 5:44 left, Serna PAT kick was good for the 36-21 win.
 
Eady was 5-of-13 with 86 passing yards and one interception, while rushing for 9-yards. White went over 100-yards in rushing for the first time this season on 10 carries for 115-yards and recorded one rushing touchdown. Brown ran 4 times for 25-yards, one touchdown and Janquez Sanders rushed 10 times for 21-yards.
 
Renard Williams had two catches for 41-yards and Jamie Walker one catch for 34-yards.
 
Robinson completed 14-of-40 passes for 193-yards and threw three interceptions for the Thorobreds. Locket had 22 rushing attempts for 101 yards with two touchdowns.
 
Slaughter caught five passes for 72-yards and Moronkie Tapper two receptions for 61-yards.
Bernard Little and LeRon Furr led the Wildcats defense with 10 tackles each, Little had three sacks, 3.5 tackle-for-loss and two quarterback hurries. Furr had 1.5 tackles-for-loss, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry. Stefon Harper added 9 tackles, Walker 8 tackles, Kentorius Jackson 6 tackles and Michael Lee 5 tackles. Walker, Lee and Lewis each had an interception.  
 
Marcus Harris collected 9 tackles and 1.5 tackle-for-losses for Kentucky State. Trevon Spencer added 8 tackles and Jermaine Graham one interception.
 
FVSU's Serna had five punts for 226-yards, including three punts inside the 20-yard line. Berryman recorded five punts for 136-yards in the game for Kentucky State.
 
The Wildcats had nine first-downs in the game; Kentucky State recorded 17 first downs.
 
FVSU outgained the Thorobreds 281-271 in total offensive yards. The Wildcats rushed 36 times for 186-yards compared to Thorobreds 32 rushing attempts for 78-yards.
 
FVSU recorded 95 passing yards, while the Thorobreds had 193 passing yards.
 
The Wildcats controlled the ball for 28 minutes and 28 seconds and Kentucky State had a time of 31:32.
 
 FVSU converted 1-of-13 third-down situations, while Kentucky State went 5-for-15 in conversions.
 
The Wildcats will play Limestone College for the first time at Wildcat Stadium on Saturday, October 18 at 2 p.m. This will be senior day for the Wildcats and the last time 14 senior student-athletes will walk the field of Wildcat Stadium.
