FORT VALLEY, GA (November 19, 2014) – The Fort Valley State Wildcats (0-2) drop their second game of the young season after a 72-56 loss to Georgia Southwestern University (1-0) Wednesday night at the HPE Complex on FVSU's campus .
FVSU shot 31.0 percent from the field (9-29) in the first half and another 37.5 percent (9-24) in the second half. The Wildcats made 18-of-53 baskets for 34.0 percent on the night.
The Wildcats scored on 19-of-30 free throws for 63.3 percent, had 7 steals, hit 1-of-16 three pointers and turned the ball over 16 times.
GSW made 10-of-24 shots for 41.7 percent from the floor in the first half, while connecting on 9-of-18 trays for 50.0 percent and 71.4 percent at the foul line (10-14).
For the game, GSW shot 42.3 percent (22-of-52) from the field, 45.2 percent (14-31) in threes and 14-of-23 for 60.9 percent from the line. GSW had 18 turnovers and 8 steals.
GSW gained the narrow edge in rebounding over FVSU 40-37.

D'Areial Franklin led the Wildcats in scoring with 12 points, making 4-of-8 baskets, 4-of-6 free throws and 4 rebounds. Senior point guard
Desmond Lofland chipped in 11 points, while making 9-of-11 free throws. Senior forward
Tyrone Brinson added 9 points, 4 rebounds and junior center
Jordan Cornelius grabbed 6 boards.
Damien Leonard led GSW with a game-high 22 points, Deric Rudolph and Kevin Burnell scored 14 points each. Josh Birchfield led all rebounders with 12.
FVSU next game is November 24, as they travel to Georgia College and State University for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
