FORT VALLEY STATE GETS BY MOREHOUSE 54-52

Box Score FORT VALLEY, GA (February 18, 2014) – Senior forward Brandon Davey (Warner Robins, GA) scored a game-high 15 points and went 4-for-4 at the free throw line to help Fort Valley State defeat Morehouse 54-52 on Tuesday at the HPE Complex.

Senior guard Joshuah Davis (Augusta, GA) added 12 points and two blocks and senior forward Corey Hunter (Cincinnati, OH) hit 9 points. Senior forward Nigel Domineck (Atlanta, GA) had 11 rebounds, 9 points and senior point guard Anthony Bell (Detroit, MI) dished out a game-high 5 assist for Fort Valley State (16-6; 12-1). Fort Valley State remains in first place in the SIAC Eastern Division with a four game lead.

Austin Anderson scored 12 points, Joshua Simmons had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Darrius Williams added 10 points for Morehouse (7-15; 4-9).

Fort Valley State shot 35.8 percent in the second half on a 19-of-53 shooting. The team made 12- of-19 free throws and grabbed 35 rebounds.

The Wildcats held Morehouse to 40.4 percent shooting and 2-for-6 from 3-point range, with 33 rebounds.

Fort Valley State ran out to a 20-14 lead early before Morehouse rallied in the middle part of the first half. Anderson's layup tied the game at 22-22.

Morehouse gained the lead when Williams hit two free throws with one second left on the clock for a 24-22 halftime lead.

The Wildcats made just 2-of-7 foul shots in the first half. Morehouse on the other hand went 5-for-6 at the foul line and went on to make 12-of-13 for the game.

The Maroon Tigers scored the first two points in the second half on a Robert Askew layup for a 26-22 lead.
Davey's 3-point play gave Fort Valley State the lead at 27-26, Morehouse made two free throws and a layup to go back in front 30-27.

Fort Valley State's Hunter jumper and Bell's layup pushed the Wildcats lead to 47-41.

Williams layup with 12 seconds left cut the lead for Morehouse to 53-52, then Davis made the front end of two free throws to give Fort Valley State a 54-52 lead.

Morehouse's Williams missed a six foot jumper with one second left that would have tied the game.

Morehouse scored 24 points in the paint to Fort Valley State's 22, while Fort Valley State made 14 points off turnovers to Morehouse 6 and another 13 points on second chance shots to Morehouse 8.

Fort Valley State's next game will be against Clark Atlanta University on Thursday, February 20 in Atlanta, GA at 8 pm.
