Box Score 2 ATLANTA, GA (February 22, 2014) – Fort Valley State University (0-13; 0-4) softball team dropped a doubleheader to the Lady Panthers of Clark Atlanta University (4-3; 2-0) on Saturday by a score of 8-9 and 11-13.
DeAunna Jackson led the Lady Wildcats in game one with three hits and two RBI's, while
Kenya Shakoor,
Hadiyah Walker and
Alexis Ricks had two hits each. Ricks helped herself by driving in three RBI's and Shakoor with two RBI's and
Crystal Richmond one RBI.
Breanna Bailey led Clark Atlanta with three RBI's on three hits and scored two runs.
Ricks (0-11) picked up the loss by going seven innings and allowing ten hits, seven earned runs, three base on ball and seven strikeouts.
Brittany Gonzales (3-1) got the win in seven while giving up 12 hits, eight earned runs, two walks and three strikeouts.
FVSU did not score until the fourth inn as Walker singled and advanced to second and Jackson doubled in Walker. (1-3)
In the fifth, FVSU had four to cross the plate. Jones and Stearns singled and Shakoor walked to load the bases. Richmond had a long fly out to center field to score Stearns and Jones. Walker was hit-by-pitch and Ricks singled in Shakoor and Jackson doubled-in Walker. (5-4)
The Lady Wildcats scored their final three runs in the six inns. Jones walked and advanced to second on a Stearns fly-out to left field. Buckner and Shakoor singled to score Jones. Walker was hit-by-pitch and Ricks singled to score Shakoor and Buckner. (8-8)
The Lady Panthers scored one run in the second, two runs in the third, one run in the fifth, four run in the six and the winning run in the seventh. Alia Williams doubled and Bailey doubled scoring Williams. (8-9)
In game two, Richmond led the Lady Wildcats with four RBI's on two hit and she scored twice, while Shakoor scored four times, three RBI's and two hits. Buckner, Walker, Jackson and
Abrahana James had two hits apiece.
Clark Atlanta was led by Alia Williams with three hits, two RBI's and scored two times.
Ricks (0-12) received the loss as she gave up 18 hits, 13 earned runs, three walks and four strikeouts.
Barbara Goodwin (1-2) picked up the win, with seven inn pitched, 16 hits given up, 10 earned runs, six base-on-ball and four strikeouts.
In the first, Stearns walked, Buckner singled and Shakoor walked to load the bases. Richmond reached first base on a fielder's choice, as Stearns was thrown out at the plate by the third baseman. Walker then walked scoring Buckner, Ricks walked scoring Shakoor and Jackson singled to score Richmond. (3-2)
Stearns walked in the second, but forced out at second on a Buckner fielder's choice. Richmond singled in Shakoor for the score. (4-4)
In the third, James and Stearns singled and Buckner doubled in Stearns for the run. (5-5)
Jones and James led off the fifth with singles and Shakoor doubled in two runs. Then, Richmond homered and Shakoor scored. (9-8)
In the top half of the seventh inn, Postia Wilson singled then advanced to second on a balk and Shakoor tripled to score Wilson, Richmond flied out to second to bring Shakoor's across the plate. (11-13)
The Lady Panthers scored two runs in the first and second, one in the third, three in the fifth and five in the six. (11-13)
The Lady Wildcats will host Kentucky State University in a doubleheader on Tuesday, February 25 at 1/3 pm.
