Box Score 2 Jasper, AL (March 14, 2014) –
Crystal Richmond led the Fort Valley State University Lady Wildcats (2-27; 2-6) in game two with a walk off two-run homerun for the 5-4 win over Miles College (6-19; 4-3). The Lady Wildcats had just won their first game over Kentucky State University (3-17; 3-6) in game one 10-1 on Friday, March 14 at Jasper Memorial Park. The two teams played in Fort Valley on February 25, and KSU won both games 6-2 and 15-7.
Game Two:
Richmond added two hit, two RBI's and scored a run, while pitcher
Alexis Ricks helped herself by scoring twice and
Tr'Kia Grant collecting two more hits and one RBI.
Jamelly Ducker led Miles with two hits and crossed the plate once.
Miles put a run on the board first in the top of the first inning when Ashley Alexander reached base on a fielding error and later scored when Brianna Barrentine grounded out to second. FVSU tied the game in the bottom half 1-1, with
Asia Buckner walking, then stole second base.
Alicia Jones singled to center field to score Buckner.
Miles responded in the fourth with three runs, as Jamelly Ducker walked, Robyn Wallace reached base on a fielder's choice Deandera Norwoods SAC bunt advanced both runners. Megan Honea reached base on another fielder's choice and later advanced to second on the throw to the plate as Ducker scored. Tina Taylor singled and Wallace scored, Taylor advanced to third on a pass ball scoring Honea for a 4-1 lead.
FVSU cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom half when
Hadiyah Walker singled,
DeAunna Jackson singled and Walker advanced to third base and Grant singled in Walker.
The Lady Wildcats added a run in fifth to close the gap to 4-3.
In the seventh, score 3-4 and Ricks singled to left field, Richmond pinch hit for Raven Wilson and ended her slump with a walk off two-run homerun for a 5-4 win over Miles.
Alexis Ricks (2-26) earned the win, pitching seven innings and giving up two earned runs on five hits.
Game One:
FVSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning on an
Asia Buckner singled and stole second, then advanced to third on a pass ball.
Crystal Richmond singled to left field to score Buckner for a 1-0 lead.
Kentucky State plated a run in the bottom half when Palaura Parker walked, Kenya Wilcots singled and Megan Jaramillo grounded out to first base to score Parker for a 1-1 tie.
FVSU added a second run in the third inning as
Alicia Jones singled, Richmond singled to send Jones cross the plate for the 2-1 lead.
The Lady Wildcats scored an additional five runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth for the 10-1 win.
FVSU will play back-to-back games tomorrow with LeMoyne-Owen College at 12 noon and Tuskegee University at 2 p.m..
