FVSU WILDCATS OVER BENEDICT 75-74 IN OT

Davey makes two of his 27 points
Box Score BIRMINGHAM, AL (March 5, 2014) – The #1E Fort Valley State University Wildcats (20-8; 15-3) led by senior forward Brandon Davey scored a game-high 27 points in the dismissal of #5E Benedict College Tigers (17-11), 75-74 in overtime and advanced to the Friday's semifinals of the SIAC basketball tournament.

Brandon Davey led the Wildcat with 12 points at halftime with Benedict leading 35-30. Deonte Johnson and Lamar Adkins shared 10 points each for Benedict.

FVSU shot 40.0 percent from the floor and 81.3 percent at the free throw line, while Benedict hit 43.3 percent and 80.0 percent at the foul line. The Wildcats largest lead came at the 12:41 mark by three points and Benedict's by six with 4:52 left before half.

In the game that featured 12 ties and 23 lead changes, it came down to the final shot. But the desperation heave by Benedict's Andrew Crawford clanked off the rim and bounced wide.

Benedict won the rebounding battle 39-29, but Fort Valley forced 25 turnovers, while only committing 11 giveaways.

SIAC Player of the Year Davey hit 11 of 18 shots and grabbed four rebounds, while making 3-of-4 foul shots. Teammates Corey Hunter and Ralph Wilson contributed 14 and 10 points, respectively. Anthony Bell dished out a game-high eight assist.

Deonte Johnson hit 7 of 12 shots and 8 of 12 free throws, for 23 points, to lead the Tigers, who finished the season at 17-11.
Benedict, the SIAC's two-time defending champions, had advanced to the quarterfinals with a win over LeMoyne-Owen, in the opening round.

Fort Valley (20-8) drew a bye in the first round. They advance to play the winner of Friday's matchup between #2W Stillman and #3E Paine.
FVSU shot 45.6 percent for the game and went 10-of-16 from the free throw line for 62.5 percent shooting. Benedict made 48.0 percent of their shots and 80.0 in free throws.

The Wildcats outscored the Tigers in the paint 50-26 in points, 32-15 off turnovers, 11-6 on second chance shots, 10-4 on fast break points and 29-19 points from bench players.
