FVSU LADY WILDCATS SOFTBALL TEAM FINISH WITH WINS OVER PAINE

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, GA (April 19, 2014) – Spectacular pitching and timely hitting were the key in Fort Valley State's sweep over Paine College. FVSU took game one 8-5 and game two 11-2 in five innings to finish the season with a 7-38 overall record and 7-17 record in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).
 
Game one saw Paine hold a 1-0 lead until the third inning before Fort Valley State plated five runs and took the lead and never looked back.
 
Asia Buckner got things going in the third inning when she scored Abrahana James and Bia Stearns on an error by the first baseman to give FVSU a 2-1 lead. Ashley Polke singled and Alexis Ricks singled and advanced to second on an error by the center fielder to plate Polke and Buckner for a 4-1 advantage. Tr'Kia Grant's single scored Ricks for the fifth run of the inning for a 5-1 score.
 
Kelsey Baker doubled to right center for Paine in the bottom of the third and Renee Pearsey doubled in Baker for a 5-2 score.
 
In the fifth, the Lady Wildcats added two more runs with Grant and Walker scoring on DeAunna Jackson single to right field and an error by the right fielder to increase the lead to 7-2.
 
Paine scored three more runs in the bottom half of the six innings for a 7-5 score.
 
FVSU scored their final run in the seventh when Jackson reached base on a fielder choice to score Walker and the lead 8-5.
 
Paine was unable to score after scoring five runs and dropped the game 8-5.
 
Alexis Ricks (5-35) earned the win, giving up just seven hits and striking out eight.
The second game of the doubleheader continued with a powerful pitching performance from junior Alexis  Ricks.
 
The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a seven run lead and never looked back as Alexis Ricks helped her cause with a double to score Ashley Polke, Crystal Richmond walked and Ricks scored the second run on an error by the catcher. Abrahana Jackson singled and advanced to second on the throw, while scoring Hadiyah Walker and Richmond for a 4-0 lead. Tr'Kia Grant scored the fifth run on a wild pitch and Asia Buckner doubled in Stearns and Jackson for six and seventh run for a 7-0 score.
 
FVSU added another run in the second and third innings and Paine punched across one run in the bottom half of the third for a 9-1 lead.
 
FVSU tacked on two runs in the fifth when Bia Stearns reach base on a hit pitch, stole second and later scored on a wild pitch. Asia Buckner reached base on a walk, then scored on a wild pitch for the final score 11-2.
 
Alexis Ricks (6-35) got the win, while allowing two hits, one earned run and five strikeouts.  
 
Grant and Walker led the Lady Wildcats in game one in hitting with three hits each and Jackson and Ricks with three and two RBI's driven in. Walker also scored twice while several Lady Wildcats scored once.
 
In game two, Buckner and Ricks led FVSU with two hits apiece and Buckner, Polke and Jackson had two RBI's each, as Ricks scored two times and Stearns plated three times.
