TUSKEGEE, AL (January 12, 2015) – Senior point guard
Derrick Spear (Atlanta, GA) led Fort Valley State University Wildcats (0-12; 0-5) in scoring with a game-high 20 points in the 74-67 loss to Tuskegee University Monday night at the Chappie James Center.
Spear dished out a game-high 7 assist, while hitting 9 out of 10 free throws in 37 minutes of play. Senior forward
Tyrone Brinson (Savannah, GA) grabbed a game-high 8 rebounds, posted 18 points and 3 assist. Junior center
Ralph Wilson (Americus, GA) added 11 points and went 2-for-2 at the foul line.
Tuskegee's Viadmir Tilme led the team with 13 points and Elijah McMillian pulled down 7 boards.
In the first half, FVSU hit 45.5 percent of their shots from the floor (10-22) and made 6-of-7 free throws for 85.7 percent shooting. For the game, the Wildcats finished with 42 percent shooting from the field and 86.4 percent shooting from the foul line (19-22).
Tuskegee on the other hand made 48.1 percent of its shots in the half (13-27) and went 6-of-9 at the free throw line (66.7 percent). The Golden Tigers shot 44.2 percent for the game (23-52), while hitting 73.1 percent at the line (19-26).
Tuskegee out gained FVS on the boards 30-28, but the Wildcats led Tuskegee in points made in the paint 26-16 and 34-19 on players off the bench. Tuskegee scored 22 points to FVSU's 12 points off turnovers.
