FORT VALLEY, GA (January 15, 2015) – Fort Valley State (1-12; 1-5) had three players to post double figures in their first win of the season 84-77 over Miles College (1-12; 0-6) Thursday Night at the HPE Complex.
Senior forward
Tyrone Brinson (Savannah, GA) led all scorers with a season-high 28 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Brinson made 10-of-12 baskets from the field, 2-of-3 threes, 6-of-7 foul shots, stole two ball and blocked two shots. Senior Point guard
Derrick Spear (Atlanta, GA) scored 26 points and grabbed 6 boards, while hitting 13-of-15 free throws and going 3-for-6 from 3-point land. Junior guard
Kenneth Harper (Detroit, MI) added 19 points as he scored on 8-of-9 shot from the field and made one 3-pointer. Senior point guard
Desmond Lofland (Augusta, GA) dished out a game-high 11 assist and grabbing 7 rebounds.
Maiscel Grier and Willie Gray led Miles in scoring with 16 and 14 points, while Hasain Bunnell had 9 boards.
FVSU shot 53.8 percent from the field in the first half (14-26), 50 percent in three pointers (5-10_ and 54.5 percent at the free throw line (6-11). For the game, the Wildcats made 25-of-51 baskets (49 percent), 37.5 percent in threes in threes (6-16) and 28-of-42 foul shots (66.7 percent).
Miles made 39.3 percent from the floor in the first half and 60 percent at the line, while making 27-of-65 shots for the game (41.5 percent). The team hit 61.1 percent of their free throws (22-36).
The Golden Bears out rebounded FVSU 41-39, as the Wildcats turned the basketball over 32 times to Miles 29. Miles scored 42 points to FVSU's 28 in the paint, 26 points to 20 off turnovers, 21 points to 12 on second chance shots and 41 points to 10 off points off the beach.
