FORT VALLEY, GA (September 26, 2015) – The Wildcats of Fort Valley State University went into tonight's contest looking to keep their win streak alive and a chance for Coach
Donald Pittman and Coach Mike White meet for the first time in the Valley. Wildcat fans did not have to wait long as the Wildcats scored at will, handing Benedict College its fourth straight loss 33-3.
Fort Valley State improved their overall record to 3-1 and a conference leading 3-0 record, while Benedict dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.
The Wildcats scored 3-points in the first quarter, 17-points in the second quarter and 13-points in the third quarter for their 33-points and the Tigers 3-points came in the third quarter.
FVSU scored the first four scores with sophomore kicker
Juan Serna 46-yard field goal, completing an 8-play, 49-yard drive with 6:41 left in the 1
st quarter (3-0).
Then with 8:16 to go in the 2
nd quarter, senior free safety
George Maxey returned Patrick Hoard interception 5-yards for a touchdown. Serna kick attempt good (10-0).
Sophomore quarterback
Otis Brown left the game in the 2
nd quarter with a shoulder injury. Sophomore quarterback
Malcolm Eady entered the game and scored the Wildcats first touchdown on a 2-yard run at the 6:26 mark. Serna kick attempt good (17-0).
Serna increased the lead to 20-0 with :06 seconds left before halftime on a 32-yard field goal.
Tory Mimbs 32-yard field goal added 3-points for Benedict after coming from the locker room with 8:27 in the third quarter to cap a 4-play, 5-yard drive (20-3).
Senior wide receiver
Jevon Bell added another touchdown on a 70-yard pass from Eady with 8:06 left in the 3
rd quarter. Serna kick attempt good (27-3).
Sophomore wide receiver
Drelon Freeman rounded out the scoring with an 11-yard pass touchdown from Eady completing a 5-play, 37-yard drive with 4:03 left in the game. Serna kick attempt failed (33-3). Serna missed his 1
st PAT of the season, after making 15-of-15.
FVSU led the Tigers in all categories, starting with 15 first downs to 5, 158-yards in rushing to 111, 164-yards in passing to just 5-yards for Benedict and 322 offensive yards to 116-yards for the Tigers. The Wildcats fell under 100-yards in penalties for the first time this season, as they had 76-yards in penalties. FVSU controlled the game with a time of possession of 30.04 minutes.
FVSU intercepted the Tigers quarterbacks four times and Serna put up a 46.8 yards per punt day.
Sophomore running back
Jalen White added 39-yards in rushing and Brown another 38-yards, while Eady completed 5-of-9 passes for 98-yards and Brown throwing 5-of-6 passes and one interception for 66-yards. Freeman led the receiving core with 3 receptions for 22-yards, one touchdown, Bell had two catches for 76-yards and senior wide receiver
Alexander Morgan two catches for 26 yards.
Senior linebacker
Stefon Harper led the defense with 11 tackles (2 solos), while sacking the quarterback once and 2.5 tackles-for-losses. Freshman middle linebacker
Leon McQuarker had 6 tackles and one tackle-for-loss. Senior free safety
George Maxey grabbed 2 picks; freshman free safety
Kentorius Jackson and junior cornerback
Breon Isaac had one interception apiece.
