WILDCATS FALL TO ALDERSON BROADDUS

FORT VALLEY, GA (October 1, 2016) – Fort Valley State University football team dropped its second straight road game 33-9 to Alderson Broaddus University, Saturday afternoon at Multi Sports stadium  in Philippi, WV.
 
The Wildcats fall to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the SIAC, while Alderson Broaddus improves its overall record to 3-2.
 
Turnovers once again killed the Wildcats, as they gave up four turnovers in the first half to produce 23-points for Alderson Broaddus.
 
For the game, FVSU had 10-first downs, netted 39-yards rushing, and netted 96 passing yards and 135-yards of total offense. Alderson Broaddus put up 18 first downs, 143-yards on the ground, 167 passing yards and 310 total yards.
 
Freshman quarterback Mekall Yancie rushed for 35-yards on 16 attempts for the Wildcats, while completing 7-of-15 pass attempts for 96-yards and one touchdown.  Freshman running back Jamari Clark rushed nine times for 29-yards. Freshman quarterback Demontay Jones went 0-3 with two interceptions.
 
Clark and junior fullback Roderick Burnette grabbed two passes each for 43 and 31-yards. Junior wide receiver Bodarius Johnson and freshman wide receiver Orenzo Smith grabbed one pass each.
 
Defensively, senior defensive back Brian Walker led the team with 11 tackles (8 solo), one and a half tackle-for-losses for four yards, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble for three yards and blocked a field goal. Junior linebacker Cannon Thomas had eight tackles (5 solo) and three tackle-for-losses for eight yards, while senior defensive back Demonta Prather chipped in seven tackles, two tackle-for-losses and three yards and senior linebacker Ryan Bowman add six tackles, one sack for five yards, one tackle-for-losses and five yards. Sophomore defensive back Kentron James and freshman defensive lineman Jacari Roberts picked up a fumble apiece.
 
For ABU, Brandon Jones rushed 26 times for 119-yards and three touchdowns and D. Bruggeman connected 11-of-16 times for 142-yards. E. Velasques had three catches for 25-yards and Jeff Stephens led the team with 11 tackles, two sacks, and four tackle-for-losses for 22-yards and forced one fumble.
 
First quarter, ABU scored with 10:16 on the clock, T. Schiefelbein kicked a 19-yard field goal (ABU 3 – FVSU 0). Wilson Vaughn connected with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Zack Lake with 5:02 to go, Schieflbein PAT good (ABU 10 – FVSU 0).
Second quarter, Brandon Jones rushed 15-yards for the touchdown at the 13:21 mark, PAT failed (ABU 16 – FVSU 0). FVSU cracked the scoreboard on junior kicker Juan Serna 45-yard field goal with 5:15 remaining before halftime (FVSU 3 – ABU 16). ABU's Jones score his second touchdown of the quarter on a two yards run with twenty-three seconds left, Schiefelbein PAT good (ABU 23 – FVSU 3).
 
Third quarter, Yancie completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Clark to close the gap with 9:34 left, Serna PAT failed (FVSU 9 – ABU 23). At the 3:31 mark, ABU's Jones crossed the goal line from two yards away, Schiefelbein PAT good (ABU 30 – FVSU 9).
 
Fourth quarter, Schiefelbein completed the scoring with a 27-yard field goal (ABU 33 – FVSU 9).
 
FVSU return to Wildcat Stadium next week after being on the road two weeks to host Kentucky State University in a 2 p.m. contest. Saturdays' game is Senior Day for the Wildcats.
