FVSU WILDCATS FALL 26-10 TO KENTUCKY STATE

FORT VALLEY, GA (October 8, 2016) – The Fort Valley State University football team could not pull off the win on Saturday as they drop a 26-10 decision to conference foe Kentucky State University at Wildcat Stadium.
 
FVSU overall record is 1-5 and 1-3 in the SIAC and KSU increase their overall record to 2-4 and 2-1 in conference play.
 
The Wildcats had 14 first downs, while out rushing KSU with 231-yards to 126-yards; KSU led in passing yardage 194 to 101 and FVSU leading with 332 total yards of offense to KSU's 320. FVSU had one turnover that resulted in a score. FVSU had 9 penalties for 91-yards to KSU's 5 for 50-yards.
 
Freshman quarterback Domontay Jones completed 12-of-18 passes for 101-yards, one touchdown, while gaining 11-yards on five attempts. Freshman running back Jamari Clark went over the 100-yard mark in rushing with 129-yards on 18 attempts. Senior wide receiver Otis Brown had 61-yards on the ground and four catches for 13-yards and one touchdown. Freshman wide receiver Orenzo Smith led the receiving core with four catches for 37-yards, junior fullback Roderick Burnette grabbed two passes and junior wide receiver Bodarius Johnson and Clark had one each. Junior kicker Juan Serna punted five times for 222-yards and 44.4-yard average.
 
Quarterback Jules St. Ge led KSU in rushing with 66-yards on 17 attempts and completed 10-of-17 passes for 194-yards and one touchdown. Jake Ramsey had four catches for 21-yards.
 
Senior defensive back Demonta Prather led the Wildcats with 12 tackles (3 solos) on defense. Sophomore defensive back Kentron James followed with 7 tackles, one tackle-for-losses, senior defensive back Brian Walker had 6 tackles (5 solos), four tackles-for-losses (11-yards), one forced fumble, one pass break-up and one quarterback hurry. Junior defensive lineman Roosevelt White added 6 tackles and one tackle-for losses.
 
Travon Spencer led KSU with 19 tackles (10 solos), while adding two and a half tackle-f or-losses (4-yards).
 
First quarter, KSU scored twice off Bill Rose field goals from 30 and 40 yards. The second score came after a fumble by Jones, recovered by Raymond Malone for KSU at the FVSU22 with 3:55 on the clock (KSU 6 – FVSU 0).
 
Second quarter, Serna kicked a 34-yard field goal to complete an 8-play, 36-yard drive (FVSU 3 – KSU 6).
 
With 2:51 on the clock, Serna's punt was blocked and KSU's Vincent Edward recovered at the FVSU15 and returned for the touchdown (KSU 13 – FVSU 3).
 
The Thorobreads scored first in the third quarter on a three yard run with 8:06 left, completing a 14 play, 59-yard drive, Rose PAT kick was good (KSU 19 – FVSU 3).
 
At the 3:31 mark, Jones connected with Brown from 10-yards out for the Wildcats only touchdown, Serna PAT kick was good (FVSU10 – KSU 19).
 
With 8:03 remaining, Jules St. Ge completed the scoring with a 75-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Anderson, Rose PAT kick was good (KSU 26 – FVSU 10).
 
Next game: The Wildcats will travel to Melbourne, FL., to take on Florida Tech University in a 2 p.m. contest, before returning home for homecoming on October 22.
