FORT VALLEY, GA (November 14, 2016) – The Fort Valley State University Wildcats (1-2) basketball team added their first win of the season 66-59 over Georgia Southwestern State University (0-1) Monday at the HPE Complex.
At halftime, FVSU went to the locker room down 28-29, as senior point guard
Jalen Crawford (Detroit, MI) had nine points, junior guard
Jamaal Garror (Conyers, GA) and senior forward
Denard Williams (Warner Robins, GA) pulled down four boards each.
The Wildcats hit 11-of-30 shots from the field, 3-for-13 in threes and 3-of-6 at the line.
Tyrone Wooten led GSW in scoring and rebounding with 12 points, six rebounds.
For the game, FVSU made 25-of-61 (41 percent) shots from the floor, 6-of-22 (27.3 percent) in three pointers and 10-of-19 (52.6 percent) at the free throw line. Both team scored 22 points each inside the paint, FVSU outscored GSW 24 to eight off turnovers, scored 16 points to nine on second chance shots, and each team made four points apiece off fast breaks and FVSU added 18 points to 16 from bench play.
Crawford led the Wildcats in scoring a team-high 16 points, four rebounds, while making 6-fo-10 baskets, 2-of-3 in trays and 2-for-2 at the foul line. Senior center
Kris Bell (College Park, GA) added 13 off 6-of-9 shots and four boards, while sophomore point guard
Tyler Edwards (Douglasville, GA) collected 10 points, three assist and four steals. Garror grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, added seven points and blocked two shots. Williams finished with nine points and seven rebounds and senior forward
Anton Hurst (Augusta, GA) had one block and two points.
Wooten scored a game-high 27 points and nine rebounds for GSW and Corbyn Jackson added nine more boards.

th to play Shorter College in 7 p.m. contest. The team will follow with a game with Savannah State University in Savannah, GA on Monday, November 21
st at 7 p.m.
