ATHENS, GA. (November 3, 2016) – The Fort Valley State University Wildcats basketball team opened the 2016-2017 season with an exhibition game and the first meeting with the University of Georgia Bulldogs and lost 38-94 tonight at Stegeman Coliseum.
The Wildcats nest outing will be host the Challenge Classic on Friday and Saturday, November 11
th and 12
th at the HPE Complex on FVSU's campus. Friday games start at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Saturday 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The participating teams are Albany State University, Valdosta State University and The University of West Florida.
Sophomore guard
Jaylon McMillan (Lithonia, GA.) led the Wildcats in scoring with 15 points on a 6-for 15 shooting from the field. Senior forward's
Anton Hurst (August, GA.) and Denard Williams (Warner Robins, GA.) grabbed a game high 10 rebounds each while scoring eight points apiece.
Yante Maten sank 19 points to lead the Bulldogs and pulled down six rebounds. Derek Ogbeide led UGA with seven rebounds and Tyree Crump added another 14 points.
