FORT VALLEY, GA (November 30, 2016) – Three players posted double figures in Fort Valley State University's (1-4) 82-87 loss to Columbus State University (4-0) Wednesday night at the HPE Complex.
FVSU went to half down 43-50 with senior forward
Denard Williams (Warner Robins, GA) hitting 11 points and for CSU JaCori Payne and Darius Joell scoring 12 points each.
The lead changed 15 times and game tied 10 times in the first half as Williams's layup with 2:49 left tied it at 41. Payne for CSU made a layup with :56 seconds on the clock, sending the Cougars to the locker room with a 7 point advantage.
In the second half, CSU jumped out to their largest lead of 14 points four times, before FVSU's sophomore point guard
Tyler Edwards layup cut the lead to 82-83 with 1:11 left in the game, but it was not be enough.
Edward led the Wildcats with 18 points, while making 8-of-9 shots from the field and Williams grabbing a team-high nine rebounds and scoring 11 points. Sophomore guard
Jaylon McMillan added 13 points.
Payne scored 20 points to lead CSU and Marcus Dixon pulled down 14 rebounds.
FVSU will be back in action on tomorrow as they take on Edward Waters College in the HPE Complex at 7 p.m.
