Denard Williams (Warner Robins, GA) had a double-double for Fort Valley State with 12 points and 14 rebounds in the 69-109 loss to Columbus State tonight at Lumpkin Center.
FVSU drops to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in SIAC play and CSU improves to 6-0 on the season.
Williams scored three baskets on seven tries from the floor, made one three, went 5-for-7 at the foul line and blocked three shots. Junior guard
Jamaal Garror (Conyers, GA) and senior guard
Jalen Crawford (Detroit, MI) added 10 point each. Garror dished out a game-high five assist, while the Wildcats grabbed a total of 41 rebounds.
JaCori Payne led CSU with 22 points and Marcus Dixon added a double-double 17 rebounds and 12 points. The Cougars had 52 boards.
At the half, CSU led 51-24 with Williams scoring six points, Garror and Williams had four rebounds each. CSU's Payne and Markis Boyd collected nine points apiece.
FVSU shot 24.2 percent from the floor, 3-of-14 from three point land and hit 5-of-8 free throw in the half, while CSU hit 54.1 percent of their shots, 7-of-11 in three's and 4-for-4 at the line. The Cougars out rebounded the Wildcats 25-18.
For the game, FVSU hit 23-of-70 baskets from the field, seven of 28 three pointers and 16-of-25 free throws, the Cougars made 38-of-78 shots, went 11-for-23 in trays and hit 22-of-25 shots from the foul line.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Wednesday, December 14 with Georgia Southwestern University in Americus, GA at 7:30 pm.
