Denard Williams (Warner Robins, GA) scored 19-points for Fort Valley State (3-7) in a non-conference loss to Samford University (10-4) 94-74 at the Pete Hanna Center
Williams scored first for the Wildcats with a dunk, then Alex Thompson 3-pointer gave the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead and a lead that would not be relinquished. Samford went up 15-6 with 15:10 left in the half, before FVSU started cutting the lead. Sophomore guard
Jaylon McMillan's (Lithonia, GA) 3-point basket cut the lead to one (19-20) at the 12:28 mark. FVSU would get no closer as they went to half down 54-33
At halftime, McMillian led all scorers with 14 points, making 3-of-5 baskets, 4-for-4 in 3-pointers and 2-of-2 at the charity line. Demetrius Danzel-Dyson was the high point man for Samford with 11 points.
Second half, Thompson's jumper increased the Bulldogs score to 56-33, then senior center

James Barnes (Columbus, GA) 2-pointers cut the lead to 19.
Williams finished with 6-of-11 baskets from the floor, 5-of-9 from behind the arc, hit 2-of-2 free throws, two rebounds and two steals. McMillan had 13 points and six rebounds on 6-of-9 baskets, while senior guard
Dekoven Ware (Dawson, GA) grabbed seven boards.
Christen Cunningham led the Bulldogs with 19 points, Thompson had 18, Wyatt Walker added 13 and Denzel-Dyson and Josh Sharkey shared 11 points each. Walker had seven rebounds.
For the game, FVSU made 27-of-69 (39.1 percent) shots from the field, 11-for-31 (35.5 percent) in 3-pointers and made 9-of-18 (50.0 percent) free throws.
Samford hit 30-of-51 (58.8 percent) baskets, 8-for-16 (50.0 percent) in trays and 26-of-40 (65.0 percent) at the line.
