JACKSONVILLE, AL (January 10, 2017) – The Fort Valley State University Wildcats basketball team fail to upset Division I foe Jacksonville State University as they were defeated 81-69 Tuesday night at Pete Mathews Col.
Senior forward
Dareial Franklin (Gadsden, AL) led the Wildcats in scoring with 15-points, while pulling down five rebounds. Franklin came on 5-of-11 shots from the floor, two 3-pointers, 3-of-5 foul shots and one blocked shot in 22 minutes. Junior forward
James Barnes added nine points, hit 5-of-5 free throws and five rebounds, while sophomore guard
Jaylon McMillan (Lithonia, GA) had seven points, and senior guard
Ray Mobley (Snellville, GA) with six points. FVSU finished with 36 total rebounds, while JSU had 48.
FVSU scored on 25-of-68 baskets while shooting 36.8 percent, making 7-of-22 three points for 31.8 percent and hitting 12-of-16 free throws for 75.0 percent and their best free throws night so far.
The Wildcats hit 20-points in the paint, 14-points off turnovers, 10-points off second chance shots and 46-points from players off the bench.
Christian Cunningham led JSU in scoring with 17-points, 12 rebounds and Erik Durham with 14 rebounds and 12-points.
The Wildcats will travel to Atlanta, GA on Saturday, January 14 to play conference foe Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College at 3 pm.
