RALEIGH, NC – Fort Valley State's
Walter Foster led four Wildcat players in double-figures with a game-high 27-points in the 78-54 victory over Winston Salem State University Saturday evening in the finals of the Conference Challenge at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium on Shaw University's campus.
FVSU improves its overall record to 2-2 for the year, while Winston Salem State falls to 1-3 on the season.
Foster's 27-points is a career-high for him, as he hit 10-of-13 baskets from the floor, grabbed eight rebounds, drained 6-of-7 free throws, added two assists and blocked a shot.
Tyler Edwards added 12-points and five rebounds.
James Barnes and
Jaylon McMillan scored 10-points apiece and Barnes also pulled down eight boards and dished out a team-high three assists.
William Crandell led Winston Salem State with 20-points and tied Jamel McAllister with six rebounds each.
The Wildcats went to the locker room up 35-34, but came back out on fire as they outscored the Bulls by 22-points in the second half. The Wildcats gained their largest lead of 26-points in the second half on Foster's 3-pointer with 3:54 remaining. FVSU outscored WSSU by 28 (50-22) in the paint, scored 10 (20-10) more off turnover points.
FVSU shot 54.2 percent from the floor in the first half and 52.5 percent for the game, while making 10-of-11 points from the charity line. Both teams had 35 rebounds each with FVSU turning the ball over nine times to 16 for the Bulls.
FVSU's next game is Tuesday, November 21 as they travel to Americus, GA to play Georgia Southwestern University in a 7:30 pm contest.
