FORT VALLEY, GA –
Walter Foster led a balanced scoring attack with 16-points as the Fort Valley State University Wildcats defeated the Tuskegee University Tigers 60-53 Saturday inside the Health and Physical Education Complex (HPE) on Fort Valley State's campus. .
With the win, FVSU improved their season record to 7-5 and 4-1 in conference play, while Tuskegee fell to 1-9 and 1-3 in the SIAC.
In the win over Tuskegee, the Wildcats finished with two more players in double-figures,
Tyler Edwards and
James Barnes. Edwards scored 11-points and pulled down five rebounds, while Barnes contributed 10-points and a game-high nine rebounds.
J. R. Bryant dished out three assists and were perfect at the free throw line going 4-of-4.
Tuskegee was led by Travis Flagg with a game-high 19-points followed by Daniel Roach's 11-points.
The Tigers only lead came on the first basket of the game 0-2. Barnes' layup then tied the game at 2-2. FVSU would take a 30-17 lead over Tuskegee with 1:30 left in the half, as FVSU went to intermission up 32-22.
In the first half, Foster increased the lead by 9 (17-8) at the 8:28 mark, but the Tigers cut that lead to 8 (30-22) with 38 seconds left to half.
In the second half, the Wildcats jumped out to a 14-point lead several times but could not put the Tigers away as Flagg for Tuskegee hit a 3-pointer at the 1:02 mark to make it 55-51.
J. R. Bryant made three free throws in the last 18 seconds to push the Wildcats to victory.
FVSU out rebounded the Tigers by 1 (37-36) and picked up 24-points in the paint and another 33-points from bench players.
The Wildcats will travel to Dayton Beach, FL to play Embry-Riddle University on Monday, December 18 at 7 p.m.
