FORT VALLEY, GA – The Fort Valley State University men's basketball team had six seniors to play in their final home game, as they came up short 58-52 to Miles College during senior night Saturday at the HPE Complex.
The Wildcats dropped to 13-12 overall and 10-5 in the SIAC. MC improved their record to 7-14 and 7-5 in conference play.
Sophomore guard
Jaylon McMillan had a season high 15 points for the Wildcats and senior forward
Denard Williams pulled down eight boards. Senior point guard
Jalen Crawford led the team with five assists, while junior guard
Jamaal Garror and senior center
Kris Bell added nine points each.
Joshua Johnson led MC with 17 points and four assists. Reginald Smalls and Keandre Swopes chipped in 11 and 10 points.
FVSU went to the locker room down 32-17, but went on a hot streak coming out of the locker room by cutting the lead to four (32-28) with 17:12 to go. Crawford made it a one (34-33) point game at the 14:58 mark. McMillan's 3-pointer upped the Wildcats to 39-37 with 10:56 remaining. The game then went up and down before MC took charge and upped the lead to 58-50.
FVSU shot 32.1 % (18-56) from the field, 28.0 % (7-25) from behind the arc and 64.3 % (9-14) from the free throw line. MC out rebounded the Wildcats 54-32, while FVSU forced MC into 20 turnovers.
MC scored on 21-of-60 (35.0 %) from the floor, 2-of-7 (28.6 %) in 3-pointers and made 14-of-25 (56.0 %) from the foul line.
The Wildcats next game is in Albany, Ga., as they take on Albany State University on Saturday, February 18 at 8 pm.
