FORT VALLEY, GA – The Fort Valley State University Lady Wildcats softball team won their first games of the season in a doubleheader over Paine College 19-6 and 20-15, Sunday afternoon at Wildcat Field.
The Lady Wildcats record improves to 2-9 overall and 2-3 in SIAC action. Paine fell to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Freshman pitcher
Tenia Johnson (1-6) picked up the win while going five innings on the hill, allowing six hits, six runs, six earned runs, four base-on-balls and five strikeouts. PC's Janae Dotson (0-1) was nailed with the loss in four innings of play, as she gave up 15 hits, 19 runs, 13 earned runs and seven base-on-balls.
Game one:

Keteria Loney led the team with four hits and seven RBI's while crossing the plate three times. Freshman second baseman
Aliyah Speight followed with five RBI's on two hits, freshman first baseman

Tavyonne Dallis added two hits apiece. Freshmen center fielder
Ashley Simmons-Blair, shortstop
Brianna Jackson and Crutchfield scored three times each, while freshman third baseman
Shakerra Geter plated two times, added a hit and one RBI. Johnson chipped in with one hit.
Ashandria Henry had two hits and two RBI's to lead the Lady Lions. Daviana Harvey and Briana Cook scored twice themselves'.
PC plated first with a run in the first inning, FVSU came back in the bottom half with six runs. The Lady Wildcats added six more runs in the second, followed by PC's three in the third inning. FVSU crossed the plate five more times in the third and two more in the fourth. The Lady Lions managed to add a final two runs in the fifth.
Game two:
Freshman pitcher
Tenia Johnson (2-6) picked up her second win in the young season. Johnson came in the game in relief of freshman pitcher
Brianna Jackson who threw 1.1 innings, allowed seven runs, three hits and zero earned runs. Johnson completed 3.2 innings giving up eight runs on eight hits, allowed two earned runs with three strikeouts.
PC was led by Ashandria Henry (0-1) with 5.0 innings on the mound, giving up 20 runs, nine hits, 16 earned runs and 19 walks.

Shakerra Geter led the Lady Wildcats with five RBI's, one hit, scored twice and walked four times. Freshmen pitchers Johnson and Jackson had three RBI's each and Johnson crossed the plate three times. Freshman center fielder

PC was led by Daviana Harvey, Sabrina Arnold, Janae Dotson and Kayla Lewis with two RBI's each, while Arnold, Dotson, Ashandria Henry and Dominique Davis added two hits apiece.
FVSU led off the scoring with two runs in the first inning. PC scored seven runs in the second and the Lady Wildcats answered with 10 runs in the bottom of the second. FVSU placed five more runs on the scoreboard in the third inning. The Lady Lions attached eight runs in the top half of the fifth, then FVSU finished the scoring with three runs in the bottom half for the win.
